Common Questions

Where do these numbers come from?

CDC PLACES produces town-level estimates for adults from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, a large national health survey, combined with census data. The 2025 release reflects survey data from 2023.

Are these numbers about women only?

No. PLACES estimates cover all adults 18 and older in each town. They describe the community, not any one person, and say nothing about an individual's own health.

Why is Menlo Park not on the list?

The 26 towns are the communities around the Menlo Park office covered on the Wellness Architecture city pages. Menlo Park itself is the home base rather than a city page.

Why do small towns sometimes show unusual values?

PLACES values are model-based estimates, so towns with small populations, such as Ladera or Portola Valley, carry more uncertainty. Differences of a point or two between towns are often within that uncertainty.

Sources and How This Tool Works

Values are CDC PLACES place-level, model-based estimates of the share of adults 18 and older with each measure, crude prevalence, from the 2025 release (2023 survey data), pulled for each town in October 2026. The low, middle and high values compare the 26 towns covered on this site. High cholesterol counts adults who were screened. Population is the PLACES estimate for each town.

General health information, reviewed October 24, 2026. This tool informs; it does not diagnose, treat or replace care from a licensed clinician, and the linked sources' current versions control. Community estimates do not describe any one person's health. If something feels urgent, call 911 or your doctor.
