Weight loss resistance
Weight Loss Resistance Treatment
When the scale won't move no matter what you do, the problem is rarely willpower. Weight that refuses to budge despite real effort usually means something underneath is working against you.

What Commonly Blocks Weight Loss
Women with stubborn weight are usually dealing with one or more of these, often without knowing it:
- Blood sugar and insulin problems
- An underactive thyroid
- A digestive disorder or unresolved gut infection
- Food sensitivities
- Chronic sleep loss
- Ongoing stress
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Hormone shifts in perimenopause and menopause
Every patient wears a continuous glucose monitor, so Dr. McCully sees how your body handles food across the whole day, not just on the morning of a blood draw.
Why Dr. McCully Doesn't Prescribe Diets
A diet implies something temporary, and temporary fixes bring temporary results. No single way of eating suits everyone: what supports one person's metabolism undermines another's, because the body reads food as a signal, not just fuel. The work is finding which signals your body is receiving and correcting the ones working against you, alongside the medical drivers above.
Dr. McCully does not prescribe GLP-1 medications. She works with patients who are on them, and with patients who want to come off them while protecting their progress, staying in touch with their MD when needed.
A Patient's Story
“I had gone down about 50 pounds. I do 5Ks every month, and I just won my first 5K in my age bracket.”
Who Dr. McCully Helps
Mostly women 45 to 70 across Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Atherton, Los Altos, Woodside and Portola Valley who have tried every diet and want an approach built around their own biology. For weight that changed with perimenopause, see perimenopause and menopause care.
Patient stories reflect individual experiences. Results vary from person to person.
