Thyroid Health Care
Thyroid problems often hide behind normal labs. A single TSH value in range gets treated as proof that the thyroid isn't the issue, while hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's or poor thyroid conversion sit quietly underneath.

The Symptoms Behind a Normal Panel
Fatigue that won't lift, unexplained weight change, brain fog, hair thinning, feeling too cold or too warm, constipation and mood shifts are the symptoms Dr. McCully hears most from patients whose standard labs came back clean. One number rarely tells the whole story.
A Complete Thyroid Panel, Not TSH Alone
Every patient gets a complete thyroid panel:
- TSH
- Free T4 and total T4
- Free T3 and total T3
- Reverse T3
- T3 uptake
A TSH-only screen misses how much thyroid hormone your body is actually making. TSH is the pituitary's signal to the thyroid, and it doesn't move in step with T4 and T3, so a normal TSH often misrepresents what is happening with the hormones themselves.
Free T3 shows how much active thyroid hormone is available, and reverse T3 shows when less of it is reaching your tissues. When your results and symptoms call for it, Dr. McCully prescribes thyroid medication herself.
What Disrupts Thyroid Function
The drivers behind thyroid problems are rarely about the gland alone:
- Chronic stress
- Low iodine, selenium, zinc or iron
- Blood sugar instability
- Inflammation
- Toxin load
- Infections that were never caught
- Chronic poor sleep
Treating those drivers alongside the thyroid itself is how patients get back to feeling steady and clear, not just less symptomatic.
Who Dr. McCully Helps
Mostly women 45 to 70 across Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Atherton, Los Altos, Woodside and Portola Valley, including women who have taken the same thyroid medication for years without ever feeling like themselves. Thyroid changes often overlap with perimenopause; see perimenopause and menopause care and bioidentical hormone therapy.
