How to beat the winter blues: 3 easy mood-boosting tips

Avoid the winter blues with these 3 tips: get your vitamin D, stay social, and get more light. Stay upbeat and healthy during the colder months!

1. Get Your Vitamin D Tested and Supplement

Vitamin D plays a huge role in our mood and overall well-being, especially during the winter months. With shorter days and less sunlight, it’s nearly impossible to get enough vitamin D naturally.

I recommend getting your vitamin D levels tested and taking a high-quality supplement to keep your levels up. This can significantly help in boosting your mood and energy levels. For more detailed information on vitamin D and its importance, check out my last video or blog.

2. Stay Social and Connect with Others

As humans, we thrive on connection. The winter months can sometimes lead to isolation, which makes mood issues even worse. It’s essential to maintain social relationships and make plans with friends and family.

When your brain’s feel-good chemicals, like serotonin, are lower, being around people can help elevate your mood. So, be sure to have events on your calendar, whether it’s a coffee date, family gathering, or simple phone call with a loved one. The key is to keep your social connections strong.

3. Get as Much Light as Possible

Even though it’s cold, getting outside and soaking up as much natural light as possible can do wonders for your mood. Even on overcast days, natural light helps stimulate serotonin production, which helps prevent feelings of depression.

Here are some ways to boost your light exposure:

  • Get outside daily, even if it’s cloudy or chilly.
  • Use a blue light box to mimic sunlight and improve serotonin production.
  • Red light therapy is another great option. I love using a red light mask or panel on my face—it helps stimulate feel-good neurotransmitters, and it’s also fantastic for your skin.

Stay Bright This Winter

Don’t let the winter blues get the best of you! By following these three tips—getting your vitamin D, staying social, and increasing your light exposure—you can maintain a positive, healthy mood all season long.
