Over the years I have concluded that unresolved emotions and traumas play a significant role in physical health issues. For me this is a non-negotiable aspect of the healing process that should never be overlooked. Here’s why addressing emotional triggers is essential for holistic healing.
Understanding the Mind-Body Connection
- Emotional Triggers: Unresolved emotions and traumas can manifest as physical pain or health problems.
- Holistic Healing: True healing involves addressing both physical and emotional aspects of health.
- Non-negotiable: Ignoring emotional health can lead to relapses or unresolved issues.
Personal Experience
About 15 years ago during a holiday visit from family members, I got that stiff neck where you can’t turn your head and if you try, it feels like something is going to crack. The issue persisted for the week that they were visiting. I was conscious of holding my tongue when frustrations were high. The day the visitors left, I woke up at 1am with my neck pain so intense that I cried for a solid 30 minutes. When I was done crying, the pain was gone, and I could turn my head like nothing had ever happened.
Case Study: Panic Attacks and Emotional Healing
Last January I started seeing a patient who suffered from multiple daily severe panic attacks. Many of these episodes had sent her to the ER. We were able to reduce the number from around 8 every day to 5 and the severity was about 50% less. This result was after diligently working on all of the dietary and lifestyle changes, taking supplements and doing the treatments I had prescribed.
It was only after addressing past traumas that her panic attacks actually stopped. And this was after having had consistent panic attacks for 10 years. Once we addressed the issues that had been plaguing her, she experienced only one more panic attack. And a year later, tha panic attacks are still resolved.
The Importance of Addressing Emotional Health
- Unresolved Issues: Physical symptoms often persist or wax and wane when emotional triggers are not addressed.
- Holistic Approach: In my opinion, addressing both physical and emotional healing provides the most effective results.
- Avoiding Relapses: Emotional healing is essential to prevent relapses in chronic physical issues to achieve long-term health.
If you have health issues that are not resolving, consider addressing underlying emotional triggers. Emotional health is intricately connected to physical well-being. True healing requires a comprehensive approach.
